Henley's Farm Shop and Delicatessen

Henley's Farm Shop and Delicatessen was opened this Tuesday by my lovely friend and fellow cheese fanatic Alison. I worked with Alison a couple of years ago before she left to have her gorgeous little boy, now this is her new venture, and what a great one! I nipped over to say hi and have a nosey this Saturday, and was not disappointed!

Henley's is located in Stoughton Grange, Gartree Road, Leicester, between Oadby, Stoughton and Evington. Stoughton Grange is also home to 'The Cow and Plough' a Steaming Billy pub, 'Lollipops' a cafe and ceramics painting workshop, 'Cafe in the Barn' coffee shop with a gifts and crafts shop inside too, as well as the Bridal shop 'Giling and White' ... so it's well worth a trip over and making an afternoon of it! There's also plenty of free parking.

Stepping inside Henley's on Saturday we were greeted by Alison and her Mum just 'checking the quality' of their lovely pies and cheeses behind the counter on the left. Looking around the room there is a wealth of fresh, local produce displayed in qwerky apple crates and lovely vintage style furniture, giving a homely, country feel.

In the centre of the room stands a large table piled with colourful, fresh and appetising looking fruit and veg, all locally sourced.

Around the room you then find a dresser supporting fresh loaves of bread and cakes, apple crates piled up against the wall displaying an enticing selection of unusual jams from 'Sandra's Jams', pickles from 'The Pickled Village', various flavours of 'Thomas J Fudge' crackers, 'Belvoir' cordials, 'Cawston Press' vintage style lemonade (delicious!... We bought some!), a selection of cakes, muesli, 'Stewarts of Trent Bridge' coffee beans and a few bits and bobs of vintage style kitchenalia.

Further around the room is a large freezer housing locally produced pre-packaged meals, a fridge containing drinks, cuts of meat and other deli items, then a large refridgerated counter housing pies, pâtés, deli meats an exciting selection cheeses. Alison is a huge cheese lover so it's not surprising that she has chosen only the best quality and most delicious cheeses to sell! Alison got most excited explaining to me that the 'Blue Murder' strong blue cheese on sale was developed by ex- Blur bass player Alex James and originally called 'Blue Monday', whilst offering up a taster! It was absolutely delicious!... We bought some of that too!

Alison said she also has plans to do more with the shop in coming weeks... So I'll have to keep nipping back! And I would recommend doing the same to anyone else too!

Best Wishes Alison!
